My story
UPDATE: A huge well done to the children of year 4 who reached their distance target - and with 9.5 days of term time left - what an impressive collective achievement. So many of the children happily gave up so much of their own time (and their energy) !
Well done year 4 - very proud of you.
We won't be recording the distances any more but the page is still open to receive any final donations. Thankyou for encouraging the children and supporting the work of Cafod.
Pope Francis has asked that, as part of the Jubilee Year Celebrations, we engage in 'active charity', so we in year 4 have decided to take part in Cafod's Big Lent Walk. We've agreed that during the 23 days of lent in which we are in school, we will give up some of our own time at break and lunch to do laps of the track around the field. We have set ourselves the ambitious target of collectively covering 500km ( 2500 laps of the track! ) over this period. Through this experience, we are learning more about sacrifice, almsgiving and teamwork, whilst also getting a bit fitter and showing resilience and practising some practical maths. Please donate to Cafod to support the good work they do and to encourage us in year 4 in our efforts over this period. We will be recording our distances on the Strava app. If you use this, you could follow us - our profile name is 'Year 4 St Johns'. Your donations can change lives. Every £1 raised through the Big Lent Walk will help fight poverty globally in countries like Afghanistan, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.
